The fruits of the first harvest are ready for the picking; tomatoes, corn, an array of vegtables, fruits and herbs.  Time to pull out the mason jars and begin the first round of canning.  All ready you can see that the light of the Sun is diminishing, the days are growing shorter.  We must start to prepare ourselves for the long winter ahead.  Clean out the cupboards of old herbs and food stuffs, offer the organic materials back to the earth as an offering for bountiful harvests.
The sun god Lugh offers himself as sacrafice to the earth to ensure the stores for winter.  He begins his walk to the underworld the world of darkness.  The goddess morns his loss and carries his unborn son.
