*TWO CURRENT LITTERS*

Mia of PDRR X MLR Tass

*THESE RATS WILL BE ADOPTED OUT AS PETS ONLY*--Because of the unfortunate occurances of megacolon :(

Born: July 20th, 2005. Wednesday evening.

Litter Size: Twelve born; sadly one was stillborn, leaving eleven. Even more sadly, one baby died a few days after birth, leaving ten. And the saddest death yet: the agouti cap-stripe velveteen girl died of megacolon on the 13th of August. So nine babies remain. :( I had made an appointment a few days prior for her to be humanely euthanized on saturday morning (the 13th), but she died that morning before-hand, which is very sad. Rest in peace, little girl.

Unfortunately, I have even more sad news: two more babies in the litter have megacolon. (The two other cap-stripe babies.) They will be humanely euthanized at the Veterinarians before the megacolon progresses. Now seven babies remain.

I am keeping a close eye on the remaining high-white baby in this litter (the banded boy) and the other babies to make sure they don't get megacolon too, and I will be keeping this litter for an extra week after I usually allow litters to go to their new homes, just to be safe. I'm totally heart-broken by the megacolon occurances and for this reason am not allowing any of these babies to be bred (thank you for the information and help, Lizzy and Lynn!), both Mia and Tass are now retired, and I am also not going to take the extra risk of breeding high-whites ever again. It's not worth suffering such a tragedy just for a particular marking. This litter has really taken its toll on me and I never want to put any more ratties through this crap again.

Gender: Two males and five females.

Markings/Varieties/Colours: These babies have an assortment of markings, including cap-stripe, banded, mismarked hoodeds, mismarked barebacksand, and even one bareback van, as Becky of MLR kindly pointed out to me. :) All babies have standard ears and six of the nine babies have velveteen coats.

Some of the babies (about 25%) may carry dumbo (because MLR Tass's sire, Curly of MLR, carries dumbo) as well as mink (if Mia does, as she had a mink sibling). All babies will definitely carry RED and blue. The babies are agouti and black.

Other Information: I will be keeping one or two babies from this litter, although I haven't completely decided which two yet--only definitely decided on one (the van girl) so far. These babies have EXCELLENT temperaments so this litter is going to be very tempting for me!

Here is the ready-to-pop Mia a few hours before the birth:

Here is a group photo of the babies at one day old.--

Sky X Milo

Born: May 4th, 2005. Wednesday morning.

Litter Size: Sixteen born; sadly four died, leaving twelve.

Gender: Four males and eight females.

Markings/Varieties/Colours: All babies are American Irish in marking, with standard ears and standard fur. All of them carry dumbo, and should carry mink, and there is a possibility that some of them carry hairless. One black baby (girl), several siamese (colour points include seal, blue, and blue agouti), and several blue smoke (?) and blue agouti babies.

Other Information: I will be keeping one or two babies from this litter; definitely the smoke blue American Irish boy, and possibly another (perhaps the blue agouti girl, but we'll see).
