| Maple Hill Stables was established in the spring of 2005. After moving to Cumberland County from Adams County we saw that there was a growing need for a quality equine facility in the area. Most of the surrounding stables were trail stables or specialized in western pleasure or gaming. Amy is the horse enthusist of the Skvarka household. Growing up on a small farm outside Gettysburg I was one of the lucky kids who had exposure to horses at an early age. My dad and grandfather brought home our first pony when I was 4 years old. Like many ponies she was full of it and not necessarily approprate for children. As my interest in horses continued to grow "a horse" became the staple on every birthday and Christmas wish list. Every book I read had something to do with horses and I would spend hours scaning through horse related catalogs. When I was 11 years old my mom found Val advertised in the local paper. I still remember the night that we went to see her. A beautiful liver chestnut mare. We were told she was a Quarter Horse/Appaloosa cross. Very gentle and had a few foals for the gentleman that was selling her. Needless to say it was love at first site. That was a Tuesday evening the end of September. That Sat, October 1, 2004 we borrowed a horse trailer and went to get my horse. Val is still with me today and will be until she crosses the rainbow bridge. During my high school years I bred Val to a beautiful black Tennessee Walker, named Smokey. She gave me a beautiful bay colt with a white blaze and blue eyes. He was born sometime between midnight and 6am on August 3. I named him Midnight Blaze. Unfortunately I sold Blaze when I went to college. When the time came to go to college I ended up choosing Delaware Valley College, Doylestown PA. For those of you that do not know this college has a very strong agricultural background and many of the majors are agricultural related. Most of my extra circulator activities during these 4 years dealt with horses and other large animals. |
