Although born in Germany, Chris was raised in Northern Ireland, where he attended a Methodist boarding school, and was head boy in his final year there.. Once finishing he states his first job as being that of a lawn mower operator in High Wycombe as well as filling in the occassional grave! (he wasn't allowed to actually dig them, that was for the professionals). Eventually Chris enrolled in a Polytechnique uni, but dropped out after only a week, as it wasn't such a doddle as he'd first thought. His career then moved him onto working in Harrods in London, only to be given the sack due to being found out for a number of pranks he had played (and riding the bikes through the store).
He got into acting thru various stage work, but it wasn't until his work on Jasper Carrot in 1983 and later on in Spitting Image that started his television career, a well known impressionist Chris has a huge number of voices he can mimic, his range is so vast that he has done numerous tv voice overs on adverts and you would be hard pressed to identify any as him!
Chris's connection with Rob Grant and Doug Naylor from the Jasper Carrott show led him to perform on Radio, their show 'Son of a Cliche' and later on audition for Red Dwarf. The rest as they say, is history. Since staring in Red Dwarf Chris brought to life The Brittas Empire, and more recently has landed a role in the Tomb Raider movies, putting his foot in the door of the movie industry.
