| Harrington No 10 Colliery opened in 1910 situated at the village of Lowca Nr Whitehaven. No 10 downcast shaft 20 feet in diameter sunk to the six quarters seam at a depth of 648 feet. No 9 upcast shaft was 16 feet in diameter. Disasters; 09/12/1946 14 killed in explosion of coal dust caused by opening a flame safety lamp. The Colliery closed in 1968. |
