Breeds of Rabbits.. which is for you?

If you are interested in getting a pet bunny, you need to know a lot of things.  One of them is which breed is the right one for you!  There are different sizes and fur textures.    Bunnies can weigh from two pounds and up.  The angora furs need frequent grooming.  According to the American Rabbit Breeders Association, there are more than 40 recognized breeds.  (who knows how many "un" recognized are out there, not including mixed!)  Just as with dogs, each breed of rabbit has it's own uniqueness.

Pedigree or mixed?  That's up to you.  The characteristics of a pedigreed bunny can vary from rabbit to rabbit just as with a mixed breed.  Though yes, some breeds have certain things in common, you can't assume every bunny will be the same.

Male or female??  This is a great controversy in bunny books.  The ones I read said females make the best pets, but my males have been less aggressive than the females. Keep in mind no matter which you choose, spaying or neutering should be on your list.

Because of space, I've only put the average sizes and the fur type of each of the 40, and links to pages about them.  I'm not an expert on showing rabbits, but I think it's important to know the differences.  I also do not know the temperament of the breeds.  Once you decide on a size and fur type, you can begin your quest to find your pet bunny.

Keep in mind, no matter which bunny you decide on, small children and bunnies are usually not a good mix.  Bunnies are fragile and the natural curiosity of a child sometimes is a bit much for a bunny.
