RETURN TO MENU

The last meeting before Sundays bottle fayre. Stalls are all booked and everything is ready and we all hope for another great day. Gordon brought along 3 recently dug items from the Isle of Wight. First up was a half pint green Warner from London, in excellent condition. The other two items were a stoneware powder flask, minus top, plus another broken one. I have shown pictures of both sides to show the dog and pheasant embossing. Probably date around 1810-1820.

The miniature flagon, just under 2 inches, was a 50p car boot find by Hodgy. No writing on it but has a bit of age. His much better find was the CATLEY ABBEY sparkling dumpy seltzer bottle.       John also had a 50p boot find. This was a DR STRUVE seltzer. This is the earlier (approx 1880) one which would have preceded the more familiar HOOPER STRUVE bottle.

Ivan brought along a couple of tins that were found in a garage after the owners moved house. The round one measured approx 3.5 inches diameter and holds a powder puff inside. The picture on front looks a bit like the Parthenon in Athens, but the background looks wrong and so it must be somewhere else. The other tin is either a chocolate or biscuit tin with King George V1 and royal family on front.

The final find was by Dave who bought the beer bottle. Nothing spectacular but only because it is local and not one that is normally found. HOWARD STORES, ALE AND STOUT MERCHANTS, ALDERSHOT.

Two competitions this week. The first was for 2 Pin Cushion Dolls.

In first place was Gordon with his large size 4.5 inch dolls. One has a silk blouse on, to cover her modesty.

Second was Mick with his 2 large dolls. The right hand one being a scarce bisque version.
