                                                 APRIL 2011

Mick gave a report of the March Bottle Fayre. Another successful event, although publc attendance was down a bit compared to our last event. We were let down by the in house caterer, but managed to get a  fantastic burger van at front of building. This proved very popular and so he will be definitely be used again. The in house caterer has now lost her lucrative contract - that'll teach her!!! Also the cafe seating area can now be used for stalls.

On the finds table Dave brought along the SHELVEY BRIGHTON flagon, with it's distinctive narrow shape, but this one was also an unusual size.

Chris bought the unusual J W ABILS POTTED BEEF, STUMP CROSS, MAGDALEN ROAD, NORWICH dish at an antique shop for £5. Small chip to inside rim but still a rare item. An ALLEN & LLOYD, ALDERSHOT, brown glass GB was bought at a car boot together with a fantastic bargain MACPHERSON'S CLUNY WHISKY. A couple more of his finds from an antique fair were the local W W WILLIAMS WINE & SPIRIT MERCHANT FARNHAM small flagon plus a SHOOTING BEARS coloured lid with base.

ALTON BOTTLE FAYRE

Johnny bought along a variety of bits from car boot sales. The large brown jug, with initials FA on front. Several suggestions were made as to what they stood for! A couple of pewter lidded jugs for fiver seemed like a bargain and the miniature 4 inch Pepsi Cola bottle which was a bit unusual, although pretty naff, for 50p.

Kim bought the LAUNDERS HOUSEHOLD AMMONIA  from the recent Elsecar bottle show. A nice example of a bottle that we don't find down here in the South. This would have had a swing stopper closure. The FARNHAM UNITED beer was picked up by Steve T. He also found the rare local flagon D PORTER, ROWLEDGE, which is a village near to Farnham. Never ever come across anything from there before and so a bit more research into that one is required. His 3 crested pieces from Ebay included an Aldershot shoe plus the small one from Guidford.

Eric, pictured, found fame at last. He absailed off the Blade building in Reading. He was 13 storeys up and said he loved every minute of it! Well done Eric.

Finally the evenings club competion was for two coloured marble Codds. John H was first and Mick second. Unfortunately I forgot to photograph them.
