A poorly attanded meeting due to illness and holidays and so not a lot on the finds table this month. Micky had a bit of luck. He is a great collector of Hampshire GB's and when a local rare Botley one, that he didn't have, came up on Ebay he bid it up but lost out to a higher bidder. But then a week later somebody offered him a better one at a much lower price. Although it is marked Botley, this was only a depot, as the company operated from an old mill in the village of Bishops Waltham. Also Micky had his Doulton Crowley GB's on display at The Alton Show and that resulted in another contact from whom he acquired another one - The rarer Alton Hants one with a better transfer than the one he already had.
Johnny brought along the Ramsays Superior Scotch Whisky jug, that he bought at the Alton Show. The large size codd was brought in by Ivan. This is embossed SMITH STANISTREET & CO CALCUTTA. manufactured by William Barnard & Sons, London. The large external screw stoppered mineral water bottle is unusual. It is a NASH Patent. The patent drawing shows the top more clearly. It was registered on May 12th 1904, by N Paul and Company. Does anybody know what the screw cap was made from. Was it wood or metal? No mention of it on the patent.
Pats H P TRUEFITT LTD, BURLINGTON ARCADE & ALDERSHOT pot base. He is after the lid to go with it
The evenings competition was entitled 2 POT LIDS - FOOD. This was not quite so easy, as most pots contained non food items such as cold cream, toothpaste etc. Anyway there were three entries. Ivan came first with his Gorgona Anchovy and Yarmouth Bloater pastes. John was second with the Bales Mushroom and Buszards Bride Cake. Mick was third with Caviar and Anchovy paste lids with pots. Does anybody know what this Buszards Bride Cake was? Can't really imagine it had a cake in it.
