Many of you found this website due to receiving a fat informational packet bursting with local business information. The purpose of that pack is two-fold:
- To introduce you to us, the businesses of 306 Cumberland Street
- To help promote some of our local friends & trusted businesses
If you've read other pages before coming here, you already sense that we have a strong tie to local businesses. We feel that independent, local brick & mortar stores, and to a lesser extent, home-based or direct-sales, are best for the local economy. When you shop at a box store (by that we mean those "ginormous" buildings with a nationally-recognized name on the front which sell at a discount because they can negotiate better rates), anything they aren't paying to the employees basically goes BACK to the main office, none of which for US is here in Lebanon county. These places also have the advantage of national advertising campaigns. Worse than shopping big boxes, however, is shopping online, as 0% stays local (unless you are shopping the online option of a local business, of course!) We small businesses are still the backbone of your community. Supporting us lets us support local sports teams (like youth softball or football) through sponsorships & such, advertise locally on placemats & menus (which reduces prices for the restaurants who need to purchase & repurchase these disposables), and spend money locally at those same restaurants, along with other small businesses. If everyone who visits this site shifts a percentage of their spending to local businesses, people in your community will have more money to spend locally. If those people also spend locally, small businesses will grow & add JOBS which puts more people in Lebanon to work! Big box & chain stores still have their place in a town as they sometimes have something we little guys won't, but if we have it, it's best for your community to come see us.
Our plan is to help band together the local independent businesses & help promote them for as little money as possible. In our case, helping defray the cost of paying for the bags & gas it takes us to put together these packets. In return, when we blanket Lebanon with this information, you are introduced to a collection of local businesses in a variety of categories, like a local directory in a bag! Most of our beliefs are based upon those set forth by the The 3/50 Project, although we also include home-based businesses because that is how we got our start. If you can shift your spending as their model suggests & recommend that others do so, you'll be helping your local economy in a BIG way!
Please look through the other literature, as some will include specials you won't find anywhere but in that bag; however, if saving all of that literature is impractical for you, we plan to provide links & contact information for the contributors to our informational packet right here. If you bookmark our site, you have it all at your fingertips! This is also additional exposure for our friends since, realistically, not everyone will receive that bag, but others may find their way to our site.
