LOAD ME! The ones that started the whole idea of the TMNT, the comic books. To the left here, we have the original cover of the first ever published, mentioned, known, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As said upon the Official TMNT Page. . . . .

As odd as it may seem today, 13 years ago no one had heard of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It was 1984 and two artists, by chance or Fate, met and became friends. Their mutual respect for comic artist Jack "King" Kirby led them to work together on various projects... until that momentous evening when Kevin and Peter first sketched out the characters that would become our beloved Turtles.

The TMNTs' beginnings were humble: they originated in a self-published black and white comic book that Eastman and Laird produced together in their homes. The initial print run of that first issue of the comic was only 3,000 copies. You may have read elsewhere on this Site about "How it all Began" , so we'll forego retelling the tale. This page exists to show you exactly how it all began. Click on the images below and you'll be transported back over a decade ago, to experience again (or for the first time) the original version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird!

For a better telling of this miraculous story, I suggest reading This. It'll bring a tear to your eye. ;)
