Losers

Beggars can’t be choosers
Although some may say
They choose the life they live,
Losing everything to booze,
Everything that once
They had to give.

But is it fair
To criticize
Those paralyzed
By the fear
Of overcoming
Their transgressions?

And did I mention that
My own troubles,
Welling up
From deep inside,
Are just as much
As I can fully bear?

So then I say,
It is better he
Than me.
Besides,
Who ever said
That life was fair?
