Song is "Angels Among Us"

My Potter's Story:

Kyle was our first child, my pregnancy went along quite normal (or so we thought) until I went into labor at 34 weeks.  We had an ultrasound done while I was in the hospital to see what position the baby was in and we discovered it was breech.  Dr. decided to give me a shot to stop labor and sent us home.  Two days later I was back in and monitored but sent home again.  On Friday 10-3-97 I woke up and was in full labor.  Once we were at the hospital I was monitored again and this time it was noticed that our baby was in distress.  We were sent for a level II ultrasound right away to see what was going on.  That is when it was discovered that I had no amniotic fluid and that the baby measured smaller than he was supposed to for it's due date.  We were rushed to surgery for an emergency c-section and several doctors were called in to work on our baby as soon as it was born.  Steve and I had no idea what was wrong with baby or what was going on as it all happened so very fast.

Our son was high in my ribcage so the Dr.'s had to do a classic c-section to get him.  As they pulled him out they yelled it was a boy and Steve jumped up and watched as the Dr.'s tried pulling him out.  It was so cute watching my husband root for his little boy (it sounded like Steve was watching a ball game).  Once they got Kyle out of me they whisked him off to be worked on.  We never got to hear him cry.  Steve went to be with Kyle and went to tell our family who was all waiting in the waiting room.  Soon he came back to surgery to tell me what all was going on.  While I was still in surgery I heard the nurses telling the doctor there was no cord blood,   and that I was completely dry.  I began to worry at this point.  After surgery they took me back to my room which was full of people at this point.  Kyle's doctors came in and told us what they have been doing to him and that another hospital and team of doctors was going to come and take him to their NICU and work on him.  They also told us at this time that they feared his lungs were under developed and that he might not have any kidneys as that was a clear indicator of having no amniotic fluid and for his lungs to be so immature.  When the Dr.'s from the other hospital  came to get Kyle they also told me the same thing.  Four hours later the Dr. from the other hospital called us and told us the devastating news, that our son had died.

I can't even explain what happened after that as it was all a fog to me.  But I do remember when they brought Kyle back to us later that night.  Just being able to finally hold him, kiss him, and see him was comforting enough for us.   Everything went so incredibly fast during those couple of hours we got to spend with him.  A few days later I was released from the hospital and we had his funeral the next day.  Kyle is buried in a cemetery that is on top of a very high hill and has one of the most scenic views I have ever seen.  On his headstone we have his name "Kyle Scot Schlegel", his date of birth, and our names,  we also have "Our Little Shepherd" on his headstone and a picture of a lamb.  I have planted flowers around his headstone and I have a little boy angel statue and a lamb statue there as well.   Not a day goes by that I don't remember him in some way.
