Christian Poetry

This page will eventually contain Christian poetry from throughout the ages, and by many different authors, but at the moment it just contains a few from me. I hope you like them.

We Shall Meet Again

I'll meet you in Paradise, where the skies are so blue,
Where the One who created us has His throne,
When you get there you'll know how much He loves you
And when I meet you there you'll be waiting.

I'll meet you among heavenly seas and skies starred,
A much more beautiful rendition of Earth
For here sin has not the land's loveliness marred
And all beauty is reflected from Him.

He is there as a Father, a lover, a friend
As a hero Divine and a sacrificed Lamb
And upon God alone shall our weary eyes bend
And be refreshed in His beautiful face.

We shall meet again there at the feet of the Lord
And through Him shall know each other fully,
At last we shall be free from the terror of the sword
And shall be in eternal peace with Him.

Though death has stilled your voice for now
And you and I have parted
We meet in spirit when to our Lord we bow,
And will walk together in Paradise!

Supplication

Jesus, lover of my soul, guide me;
Jesus, saviour of my life, protect me;
Be with me in life, and raise me in death
And bring me to You at the last.

You are within me, and round me and about me,
You are there in my sorrow and in my joy
You are there in my youth, and in my old age,
Wherever I go you are with me.

Grant me the power to live as you would have me live,
To do what you would have me do,
To love you and serve you as much as I can
And help me when my human will fails.

You are my protector, my Lord and my God,
And you alone I will serve,
Till the flesh gives way and mind breaks
May I always be faithful to you.

The Great Old Story

The world has never known a more important event,
Than when the Son of God chose to die on a cross,
Battered and broken, his body rent
And the world rejoiced at its loss.

Betrayal and evil dogged His steps,
And His supporters one day were His enemies the next
Of all evil surely mankind plumbed the depths
When they murdered God as says the text.

They thought it was over, this strange new faith
Dead with its Lord on government orders
They laughed in joy that their wickedness was safe
That they'd stopped morality even reaching the borders.

But the Lord did not stay dead in the grave,
On the third day He rose again
To show mankind only He could save
That through resurrection death itself was slain.

And the faith has gone on forever,
Far from the land which gave it birth,
Nothing shall defeat it, never
For as long as it lasts it shall reign on earth.

We owe everything to that dreadful sacrifice,
Salvation and triumph and hope,
Only through Him can we defeat vice
Only with His help can we cope.

Sorrow

In the depths of my despair, are you there?
When I am hurting, are you wish me?
When I am at my lowest, do you my troubles bear?
And when melancholy overtakes me, are you there?

It is when we're at our lowest we most want you,
When we are hurting we most need you
When we cry, we seek your arms to hold us,
And every tear is a prayer.

To our words, spoken and unspoken you reply
With words too dear to utter
You are present in our tears, and present in our sigh,
You are there for us no matter how bad we feel.

For you have suffered as we have suffered,
Have cried and hurt much more than us,
You have felt a whole world's misery
Have felt the pains of sin and death and lust.

You know us better than we know ourselves,
Love us more than mankind ever knows,
You are steadfast through all trials and troubles
Bringing us hope as often as the wind blows.

Jesus, you are my hope when things go wrong,
My comforter against life's cutting rocks,
You bear me out of troubles suffered long,
And will be with me until the end of time.
