You Said (Loss)

You said you’d have to go away.

You said you could not stay

for you had bad blood.

I’m of your blood.

You said there was a difference.

You said I should not cry

for this was the way life must follow.

Why shall I not cry

when you are about to leave me?

You said you’d not really be gone.

You said you’d always be with me

in my heart.

There’s a hole in my heart;

a hole where you’ve been.

You showed me the grey geese leaving.

You told me you were going to the same place,

somewhere I must not follow.

I won’t follow.

You said you’d return with the grey geese.

You said you’d be where they’d be,

but I wouldn’t be able to see you.

I cannot see you.

You said you’d be calling my name.

You said you’d be calling when the wind blows,

but I wouldn’t be able to hear you.

I cannot hear you.

You said you’d be touching my face.

You said you’d be touching me when the rain falls,

but I wouldn’t be able to feel you.

I cannot feel you.

The grey geese come and go,

the wind blows, the rain falls,

the hole in my heart is just as fresh as on that long gone day.

I’m no longer a child,

but still I wait.
