The Atheist

You always say:

"Yes, I do believe."

-"I believe in magic."

-"I believe in spirits."

God?

Of course not!

If there is a God,

why do little children suffer?

Why is there so much pain in the world?

You don’t want an answer.

Well, tell me,

is there any less suffering

where your magicians dwell?

Is there any less pain

where your spirits hover?

You say so proudly

"Thank God I’m an atheist."

-Your ticket to ignore the needy,

to condemn those less fortunate than yourself.

Your exemption from responsibility.

Still, you go to midnight mass

And eat fish on Fridays.

You fool,

you mock only yourself.
