we've seen
harsh weather
glorious sunsets
crying children
rhythmic embraces
soft scented candles
and shadows dipping
and parrying
as our mouths are tugged
up into facing a new day
we've tasted
harsh kisses
and ardent smoke
bitter tears and
angry looks fashioned
by rebellion
curious smiles
and pleading eyes
as we give in once more
to blustering hellions
and wild eyed angels
we've heard
love's sweet touch
midnight forays
into nightmare's clutches
pensive denials by
those we cherish
cautious smiles by
those denied us
and still
it is enough
