The Age Fever

A few of the visitors might be wondering as to what all this ranting and raving is all about...  In simple words, its all about a Game! I'm sure that you would have heard about Age Of Empires at least a couple of times within gaming circles, on IT Magazine Covers and in newsletter reviews... If you still seem unable to recall it, let me refresh your memory... 

Age of Empires (the original) is a Real Time Strategy (a genre of games) Game released by Microsoft back in 1997. The people responsible for the development of this cool game were the Ensemble Studios. Microsoft was the publisher for this title.

Since then many titles and expansion packs have been released under the "Age Of Empires" banner and all have been award winning best sellers. The latest title to hit the shelves is Age Of Empires 3 and its expansion packs, viz. The War Chiefs and Asian Dynasties.

Age Of Empires II And The Conquerors

Age Of Empires II: The Age of Kings (often abbreviated as AoK or AoE2 or AoEII) was released as a sequel to the award winning original Age Of Empires (or AoE)in 1999. After the release of AoK, an expansion pack titled The Conquerors was released (Often one refers to this expansion pack as AoC or AoK:TC).

Other Age Titles

AoK & AoK:TC aside we have three more Age Of Empires Titles:

1. Age Of Empires & The Rise of Rome Expansion: This was the original title released in 1997 and it set the momentum for all Age Titles.  The graphics were cool and gameplay was excellent. The RoR expansion pack added more Civilizations implemented a few balance changes and introduced more campaigns.


2. Age of Mythology: Released in 2002 is viewed as a successor to AoK. But the naming conventions adopted by Microsoft indicate that AoM was more of a peer to AoK and AoK: TC. The AoM Expansion pack titled "The Titans" was released in 2003. 


3. Age Of Empires III & The WarChiefs: The "true" successor to AoK:TC, the much talked about, Age Of Empires 3 was released in Oct. 2005 in the US. It spans the period of about 400 years and the much awaited expansion pack to this series, the WarChiefs was released a year later in Oct. 2006.
