Of Societal Ways (3/31/02)

Oh ye

Of societal ways

I spit on your attempts

To portray

Something viable and real

Can you imagine what I would do

If you actually fell in love with me?

You would have to change everything

About me that you see in one instant

The entire persona that encompasses

What makes me happy

Can we even hope to achieve acceptance

When you are alone and in that reflection

The only vision you have become

Is what is on the latest cover of this

Week’s fashion magazine?

The rains of your soul wash away

The layers of disguise that you have spent

Hours applying to your face

I hate you and you hate me

One real and one a passing fantasy

The sad thing is, these words have no effect

On those born, raised, and to the grave

Of societal ways
