I opened my eyes and saw a blurry picture of a room. My grey eyelids closed and I shook my head.
“Awake, I see”
My eyes reopened and I saw the red tome sitting next to me. I gazed around and saw I was in a kind of cell. The floor, walls, and ceiling were all a dull grey color. The ground was rough and had several blood stains on it. My eyes wondered back to Macavity.
“I suppose you will want me to tell you what I brought you here for.” His dark eyes looked into mine and I shuddered.
“You see, I met your sister, Bombalurina, at the docks several years age. I took a liking to her and started using her in my gang. However, she left me…”
I could barely believe what this tom was telling me. My sister had worked for Macavity?! Impossible! Or was it…
“And you, my sweet, will take her place. Bomby will learn that I never let betrayal go unpunished. You, Demeter, will work for me instead. Or course, Bombalurina will try to rescue you, but she will never get the satisfaction of having you back.”
Macavity reached out a dark red paw and I jerked back, expecting another blow. However, the attack never came. Instead, he stroked my cheek slowly. Part of me wanted to run, but the other half of me enjoyed it.
“You, Demi, will work along with my henchrats. Of course, you will have to go through training first. It’s a pity you’re still a kitten…so beautiful…”
So that was why he wanted me. I stared at Macavity’s paw, still resting on my cheek, and jerked away from it. The red tom fixed his eyes on me and slowly advanced. I pulled myself onto my feet and backed away. Macavity came closer, closer, and closer until his face was only inches from my own. I tried to run, but found I was trapped between the evil feline and a wall. Rough paws held me against the hard wall, suppressing my struggles.
“You will learn all about me,” he hissed in my ear. “You will be mine.”
My body was shaking again and my legs refused to support me. I fell to the ground and curled up into a small ball. I closed my eyes as tightly as I could, hoping I could make all of this disappear.
“You’ll start your lessons tomorrow.”
Tears began to stream our of my eyes. “I want to go home,” I whimpered. There was no reply. I curled my tail around my body and cried myself to sleep.
