The next images show that I have now started blocking the front & rear profiles while also removing smaller amounts of material the Heron’s neck & body to get closer to the correct profile.
These two images show the side profiles again with the front & rear profiles blocked to rough shape.
Once you have reached the stage whereas the two profiles or silhouettes have been satisfied then it is a matter of moving yourself around & around the carving slowly & only viewing or focusing mentally on the profile or what I prefer to call the silhouette now, while paying no attention or blanking out the 3 dimensional aspect of the subject. I have created a silhouette image of the two profiles to more clearly show what I try to see or focus on when blocking a subject out. To “see” in this way (breaking 3 dimensions down to 2 dimensions) is possible to achieve with practice & the way we normally see in 3 dimension makes getting these profiles much more difficult.
