I have tried a little experiment with this Eagle by thinking outside the log (Mick Burns). I will create a 4' wingspan Eagle from a log, slightly less than 2' diameter.
I started by slabbing two 3 1/2" pieces off the sides of the log in a curve to match what I wanted the wings to have.  I have left about 10" of wood, like a core, in the center to carve the Eagle body out of & I have done the first profile on one wing & started the feathers.
I have carved the first profile of one wing & then copied this onto the second wing & once the wings are almost totally carved I will join them to the Eagles body with polyurtethane glue & screws, remove the screws & finish carving, then dowel them after for strength.
