Watercolor paintings by Richard Marthers

Winner of the Artist Guild Award at Newport's "Art on the Lawn" festival this year, Richard Marthers is a native of New England, he has made Rhode Island his home for the past thrity years. His visually stunning watercolors focus primarily on New England architectural subjects, capturing the essence of life in this truly unique part of America.

Richard's paintings have been judged Best in Show at the Burrillville, RI Art Show, he took first place at Johnson and Wales Art Show and was accepted to show at the Northeast Watercolor Society Annual jurried show. Richard was among an elite group of Artists invited to show at the Marion Art Center in Massachusetts this year. Richard was reviewed by Warwick Beacon in July 2001 while his artwork was on display at the Warick Library. The following is taken from that review;

"The paintings exhibit strength of design and a love of fresh multi-color blends, capturing the essence of New England Landscape and Archetectural subjects." (the paintings) "offer a mix of impressionistic color and expressionistic brush handling."

Richard graduated from Rhode Island College with a BS in Art Education and has been teaching watercolor at the Rhode Island School of Design for more than 13 years. He also offers private instruction at his studio.

During the summer months he participtes in outdoor shows in Masssachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Though no shows are planned for this year, Richard normally shows in Florida in the winter months.

Richard is a member of the Wickford Art Association and an Associate Member of the American Watercolor Society.
