Welcome, a warm & friendly hello, to one and all! For the Native American people there have been many trails of tears. We mean for these pages to be a tribute to all Native Americans, both past and present.
The title of this site was chosen with much forethought and reflects upon the many trails or pathways that every Native American tribe has traveled.
Their struggles against oppression, annihilation, prejudice and the placement, on reservations, of large numbers of natives is tragic and seems endless. Even now, after decades of Indian activism, approximately 1 of every 4 Native Americans lives below the poverty level, in the United States. Historically, most of these conditions have occurred because of societal inhumanity, ignorance and greed. Despite all of these factors, life goes on and the spirit still lives.
There is no question of the tragedies suffered on "The Trail of Tears"; the Indian removal in the 1830's to Oklahoma Territory. But there are still many other historical events to educate and remind people of "the trail where they cried" ,as well as, the "many trails" yet to travel.
Hopefully, these pages will increase the awareness of and serve to educate all people about Native American history, both past and present.
Not only do we hope to educate about the struggles Native Americans have and still do face; but also to share the joys, lifestyles and customs of it's people. It is only through education that ignorance can be eliminated and conditions for all people improved.
