Belmont Academy began in 1981 as the Piano Preparatory Department of Belmont University's School of Music and was founded by Linda Ford and Dr. Jerry Warren. In May of 1996, the University established Belmont Academy to offer lessons in all disciplines. The Academy currently offers instruction in piano, strings, voice, guitar, brass/winds, percussion, organ and theory. The Nashville Children's Choir is also a part of the Academy with four choirs ranging generally in ages from 8 through high school. In addition, ensemble and chamber music opportunities are available.

The Academy's faculty members are dedicated professional teachers and university graduate students wishing to pursue a teaching career. Belmont Academy offers two 15-week semesters beginning in late August and ending in May. The summer is an 8-week session and begins in June. Students participate in performances offered throughout the school year, including recitals in December and May. The administration attempts to place students with a teacher whose personality and abilities meet the needs of the student. We at Belmont Academy strive to provide an environment in which students have the opportunity to explore their unique musical talents and mature as well-rounded musicians and individuals.

I have students from the University School of Nashville (USN), St. Bernard's Academy, Hume-Fogg Magnet, Eakin Elementary and other fine schools. Nearly half my students are children of MBAs, MDs, PhDs, RNs and LPTs. Many parents are professors or researchers in laboratories at VUMC (Vanderbilt University Medical Center). They come from as far as Hendersonville, Donelson and Franklin to provide lessons for their kids at Belmont. My pupil retention rate is high, indicating parental satisfaction. I will be happy to supply references upon request.
