LEON y SANTOS CLAN of BACOLOR
JOSE LEON y SANTOS
The family name LEON y SANTOS was the indirect result of the decree of Governor-General Narciso Claveria in 1849. It was a combination of the family names of the family patriarch and matriarch, DON FRANCISCO PAULA DE LOS SANTOS, who served as gobernadorcillo of Bacolor in 1821 and 1824, and DOŅA LUISA DE LEON.
Both of them had passed away by the time the Claveria edict was enacted. But to distinguish the family from the other de los Santoses in Pampanga, their descendants used this surname.
By the late 19th century however, the family name evolved again as the Leon was dropped from the surname. A possible cause of this was the sacristan mayor of Bacolor who omitted Leon on the records of family members being baptized.
During the early 20th century, the family name was further changed in one branch of the family to SANTOS JOVEN.
Don Francisco and Doņa Luisa had three sons...
