We at Destiny's House recognize the difficulties encountered by LGBT youth and young adults in dealing with their sexual identities and with their families and communities.
We recognize the fact that the latter institutions are often not supportive of these young people, whose lifestyles represent a departure from traditional expectations.
Our recognition of these forms of oppression has given rise to our dedication to provide a safe haven and supportive environment for high-risk youth and young adults in the Newark and Essex County area of northern New Jersey that have been discarded by their families owing to their sexual orientation. Destiny's House seeks to provide these teens with a safe place to live, a strcutured, supportive and supervised environment, and services that will promote their health, happiness, economic independence and personal growth. |
