  • Welcoming Home Your Bird

Before your new pet arrives, you should have everything set up at home. It will make the transition a lot easier for you and your bird!!!
Here is a list of things you will need to purchase:
    • A properly sized cage
    • A variety of different perches
    • Food dish & treat clips
    • Water dish or drinker
    • A variety of bird-safe toys
    • Seed Mix and/or Pellets
    • Mineral block and Cuttlebone
    • Grit*
    • Birdbath and/or Plant mister
    • Playpen
    • Nailclippers
    • Clean dustcloth (for catching & handling)
    • Travel cage
    • Cage lining (I use newspaper)
*Please note: Grit can cause serious damage in the crop if given to hookbills. It is on the list for those getting birds that require grit.
Here also is a list of things you will need to have prepared:
    • Cage: cleaned with a damp cloth and set up w/ food, water, perches and toys
    • Perches & Toys: cleaned with a non-toxic cleaner before being put in the cage
    • Food and Water Dishes: rinsed with hot water and filled
Once everything is finished, you are ready to pick up your pet! Good luck!
