Constantly scientists are working around the clock to research and provide humans with the best, up-to-date technologies for our working world. To many a surpise, this is happening in the bird world as well. Every day we are getting bombarded with all the ways to give our birds the best lives possible. Some work... and some do not work. However through it all there comes a better understanding of our feathered friends. Want a peice of the pie? Read on. As already mentioned, some ways work and some do not. Hopefully right now you are questioning some of the food and toys you give your birds. Here are just a few of the things out on the market that do not help, and in some ways harm your bird: ?fortified? seed diets, sandpaper perches, ethoxyquin(a preservative found in more foods than just pellets),powdered vitamins, and grit(for hookbills). In some cases, even cement perches are being found to give sores to little(or big) birdie feet when everyone believes that they are the best for their birds. So what can you trust? I mean, surely there has to be something that does help your bird live longer lives. Of course there is! For one, pellets that do not have preservatives (especially ethoxyquin) and are of natural flavoring(no artifical fruity flavors or colorings) have extreme nutritional value. Also eggshells are a number one source of calcium over mineral blocks and cuttlebones. Rope and natural wood perches are much better for your birds feet than straight wooden perches. A new brand of perch called the ?Comfy Perch? is now beating out cement perches by being far more comfortable. Next time you buy for your bird, consider the facts: just because it is out there, does not mean it is good. Shopping safe and up-to-date can help your bird in the long run, and thats what matters. |
