  • Bathing and Showering

Bathing is all about trial and error. Some birds just plain hate water. Others will like their baths a certain way. Either they like warm or cold water, bird baths or spray bottles, and sometimes you just have to angle a spray bottle a certain way on order to get their liking.

You should give your bird a bath about twice a week to make sure he has good grooming habits and his plumage is healthy. You will notice that a bathed bird is not only clean looking, but their plumage will look shiny and healthy and they will smell like a rose(or as close a bird gets to smelling like one).

Spray bottles are good for showering birds who are reluctant to bathe. They may not like it, but it's good for their health. My budgie Pablo(pictured above) hates baths, but has learned that if he sits in there for a bit he gets a treat :). Always have "encouragement tools" nearby. Also do something nice for your bird after he bathes, such as cuddle him in a towel(Pablo's fave). Making bathing a happy experience makes all the difference!
