Sisters Are Doing It
Kat, Lynne and Little Mo Slater are so busy bickering in Eastenders they don't watch much TV!  But Jessie Wallace, Elaine Lordan and Kacey Ainsworth, who play the sisters, love the movies - so we asked them to review the pick of this year's Christmas and New Year TV flicks.

HOME

Titanic

Kacey : I'm a big Kate Winslet fan, but Leonardo DiCaprio does absolutely nothing for me.  He's not a man, he's a boy!  Give me John Cusack or Sean Penn any day.  I don't usually like blockbusters, but I cried buckets watching this one - keep the hankies handy.

Jessie : My favourite bit in this movie is when Jack and Rose get it together in the car and all the windows steam up and you see Kate Winslet's hand dragging down the window.  Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders did a spoof which was brilliant - better than the original I reckon.

Elaine : My parents are both Irish, and to be honest, I thought all that 'Oirish' dancing was awful - and as for Leonardo's accent ...

Face/Off

Kacey :  It's a bit of a boy's film, isn't it?  So it's right up my street.  I love a good old shoot out - and this is really over the top.  And at least this film provides a bit of eye candy.  Mind you, John Travolta has changed a lot since the days of Grease and Saturday Night Fever.  I've watched both of those on video.

Jessie :  Yeah, him and Nicolas Cage are both really mean and moody in this.  Don't they end up swapping identities?  I prefer John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.  He was so cool in that.

Mouse Hunt

Kacey :  I've got lots of Lee Evans videos.  He only has to pull one of his faces and I'm in stitches.  This film's about two brothers who inherit a big, old house and a mouse makes their life hell.

Jessie :  Kat knows all about lousy rodents - ones called Steve Owen and the other's Garry Hobbs!  Seriously though, I'm a big kid at heart, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one.

Miracle on 34th street

Kacey :  This is a bout a little girl who doesn't believe in Father Christmas - until she meets a store Santa  played by Richard Attenborough.  It's a bit of a weepy.  I believed in Father Christmas until I was 13, even when I'd seen my dad putting the presents out!

Jessie :  I like the original movie that starred Natalie Wood and remakes are never as good, so I don't watch them as a rule.  But if you haven't seen the original before, I'm sure this is very enjoyable

Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book

Jessie :  I had a Jungle Book T-shirt when I was seven and I loved it.  I've got the Disney cartoon version on video and I watch it whenever I'm feeling a bit down.  This is the real people and real animals version starring Jason Scott Lee, but I'm not sure if it will work as well as the cartoon - I'm in love with Baloo the Bear.

101 Dalmations

Jessie : Aaaah, all those cute little puppies - I'll definitely be watching.  I have a shitzu called Bailey who sleeps on my pillow.  I've had him for six years, he's my baby.

Kacey : Dalmations are a bit mad, aren't they?  I'll probably watch this for Glenn Close because I'm a big fan, I loved her in Dangerous Liaisons.  Very evil!

Elaine : Cruella De Vil - the role was made for you, Jess - only joking darlin'!

Free Willy 3 : The Rescue

Jessie :  I think that Kat would probably watch this by accident because of the title, but she'd be very disappointed!  I won't be tuning in because I find animal films too upsetting.

Kacey :  Skippy, Flipper, Free Willy, none of these have ever appealed to me, not even as a kid.  I've got two young nephews - Jack, nine and Perry who's seven - and I went to see A Bug's Life with them, which was great.  I much prefer animated kids' films.

Big

Kacey :  This is one of the best films ever made.  I think Tom Hanks is superb as the child who ends up in a grown up body and gets a job in a toy shop.  He acts alongside a kid who plays his best mate and their screen relationship works really well.

Jessie :  I like the bit where Tom Hanks plays the toy piano with his feet.  I've wanted to do that ever since.

Elaine :  Yeah, me too.  A feel-good movie if ever I saw one - and I'm a sucker for them.  Tom Hanks has made some really good films - I cried buckets watching The Green Mile.

It's a wonderful life

Jessie :  This lives up to the films title - everything bout it is wonderful.  I read somewhere that they show this to people with depression as part of their therapy.  Kat Slater could do with some of that, I reckon.

Kacey :  I gave this film to my boyfriend Darren last Christmas on video and he watched it for the first time.  He was in floods of tears by the end - we both were.  It's a reaffirmation of life and makes you grateful for everything you've got.

The Early Bird

Jessie :  This is a classic Norman Wisdom comedy.  I've always adored him and I've got all his films.  They're the only movies which give me a real belly laugh and he's one of the few people I'd really like to meet - him and Elvis.

Kacey :  You either like him or you don't - and I don't.  I just don't get that slapstick humour.

Elaine :  My Mum used to call me Norman for a joke, because I was so accident prone as a child - I still am.  Mum will have a go when she sees me dressed up as Norman Wisdom in TV Quick and say; "The others looked really glamorous - why couldn't you?!"

LA Confidential

Kacey :  I liked Guy Pearce in this, but the film was too long.  Like Little mo, I haven't got a great attention span and when I get bored with a film, I start analysing the decor.  In this movie I was more interested in the interior of Kim Basinger's house!

Jessie :  I saw Kevin Spacey in American Beauty recently and I thought he was brilliant, so I think I'll probably watch this.  Generally, though, American cop films don't appeal to me.  I'm more into Mafia mob movies.  Kat Slater wouldn't give a damn about the story as long as there were hunks in it!

The Borrowers

Kacey :  Jim Broadbent is in this movie and I'll watch him in anything.  We appeared together in the film Topsy-Turvy - he's fantastic.  I like the whole idea of this film as it's quirky and a bit of a gothic fantasy, which is right up my street.  I read The Borrowers book as a kid and it really fired my imagination.

Elaine :  This isn't really my cup of tea at all - it's about those little people, isn't it?  I'll probably watch it with my godson, but Matilda is my favourite children's film.  I've got it on video and I've seen it loads of times.

The Matrix

Elaine :  I loved this film, but I didn't understand what the hell was going on.  I kept asking my boyfriend, Gerard, to explain and he had steam coming out of his ears by the end.  It looked really stylish and Keanu Reeves is great, although Andy Garcia's more my type!

Jessie :  This is an absolutely brilliant film and I'm not even a sci-fi fan.  The special effects are mind-blowing - but I cam take or leave Keanu Reeves.

She's the one

Elaine :  Cameron Diaz is absolutely beautiful and she was brilliant in There's Something about Mary, so I'll be watching.  I can't wait to see her in Charlie's Angels - good to see girls kicking ass for a change.  They must have seen the Slaters in action down the Vic!

Kirk Douglas Season

Kacey :  Catherine Zeta Douglas' new father-in-law isn't doing at all bad for his age, but he was a real looker in the old days.  My auntie still swoons every time she sees him on the telly.  Hollywood actors were real stars back then, and you can't beat Spartacus on a wet Sunday afternoon.  My dad likes Kirk's westerns, but his favourites are the badly dubbed spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood being all moody and chewing on a cheroot.

Elaine :  I like a good Western myself, but I'm more of a Clint Eastwood fan.  All that John Wayne cowboys and Indians stuff leaves me cold, I'm afraid.

Jessie :  I like the Stetson hats, but that's as far as it goes.  The minute I see swing doors, a saloon bar and guys wearing cowboy boots, I switch off.  Sounds a bit like Kat Slater's idea of paradise, though!
