Mo is a typical East End
matriarch, hard as nails and has a ferocious temper. She is fiercely devoted to
her family, and woe betide anyone who crosses her. She grew up having to fight
for everything she wanted, and doesn’t worry about such small details as the
long arm of the law getting in the way. Even now, in her sixties, she will
happily fence stolen goods. The police are on first name terms with her, and she
regards arrest as little more than an occupational hazard. She was widowed from
Pat Evans’s brother Jimmy Harris in 1980, but she and Pat have been feuding
since 1969. Pat told Jimmy that Mo was having an affair, but she wasn’t, and
the grudge has festered ever since.

Charlie is the widowed husband of Mo Harris’s daughter Viv, and father of five daughters, four of whom (along with Mo) still live with him.
