Powers/Prince tie Cyril for #1 overall

The Powers/Prince tag team (pictured) has surged to a tie with Cyril at the top of the JBL's overall standings after 7 weeks of action. They only made one move over the past week (claiming SS Jason Bartlett), but it was really the rest of their squad posting great numbers that did the trick. Bryan & Dean also overtook Steve Jr. & Nicole for the lead in the East Division. Junior & Nicole saw a 9 point lead sink to an 8 point deficit in one week, in large part to injuries. The big one was the loss of 2B Rickie Weeks for the season. Junior & Nicole still hold a wild card lead along with Jerry Simotas and Steve Johnston Sr. In the Central and West Divisions, it's the same story: Cyril holds a substantial lead in the Central, and Tom kept his nice lead in the West. There are still a number of JBL teams that haven't used a waiver move yet and are waiting patiently in the background ... once they act, the standings promise to do more shifting around. Good luck to all !!

Mark Teixeira leads Ed & Jason to the top

We have a new leader in the Home Run Derby, and it's Ed & Jason, who enjoyed another strong week by their top pick, Mark Teixeira (pictured) to gain the lead. Actually, Ed & Jason got phemomenal performances from their entire squad to surge to a 7 homer lead over previous leader, Steve Johnston. Ryan Zimmermann and Mark Reynolds, in particular, had big weeks for Ed & Jason. No big injuries affected the derby this week, and after a huge rush of moves in the season's first month, the waiver wire has been quiet over the past two weeks. Though the teams that do have moves all have a player in mind that they wish would fall down a flight of stairs! Many triples to all !!!

2008: The Year of Steve Torr

2008 will go down in JBL and JFL history as the year of Steve Torr. Steve finished off an incredible calendar year by defeating Tony & Stevie 56-31 in the Johnston Bowl. By winning both the JBL and JFL in 2008, Steve did something that had not been done in 16 years by capturing both titles in the same season; Steve Johnston Jr. last accomplished the feat in 1992. Steve also gets the "dynasty" label in the JFL, now having won 3 of the last 4 JFL Championships (2005, 2006, and 2008). Quite an impressive feat in a large league such as this. Steve's 2008 team was led by his third-round selection, QB Philip Rivers of San Diego, who led the entire JFL with 324 points on the season. Tony & Stevie had a remarkable season in their own right, winning the Red Conference Championship, with Tony ending up in the Johnston Bowl for the second straight season. They will be gunning for Team Torr in 2009 after ending up on the short end of both the JBL and JFL title games against Steve, but they also had the amazing accomplishment of making the Finals of both the JBL and JFL as well. This closes the books on the JFL's 20th season!
