The first BBC nature documentary to feature animals in the wild rather than in controlled settings. Film-maker, Eric Ashby pioneered the filming of animals in their natural habitat and went on to make "The Major" (1963 - first BBC nature documentary in colour), "A Forest Diary", "A Hare's Life", "The Silent Watcher" and "The Private Life of the Fox".
