| 2. When did you start reading such literature? A. When I was 13. I started writing slash fanfiction when I was 14. 3. What was the first fandom you started reading? A. I think it was Sherlock Holmes slash... 4. What was the first slash/gay/homosexual book you read? A. It was a yaoi book in Japanese called "The Prince of Cakes" (At least, that's what the title is translated.) It was about this boy falling in love with a pastry chef bloke. 5. Where did you get the idea for Depeche Mode slash? A. I was in the Depeche Mode slash group over at Yahoo!, and there was even a site for the fanfiction posted there, but it wasn't being updated. On top of that, there wasn't much Depeche Mode slash available, even though I think they're one of the slashiest bands around. (Come on, with songs like "Master and Servant", "Strangelove" and "Boys say go!"...) So, I thought, "Why don't I write them myself." 6. Where the hell did you get the idea for Pet Shop Boys and New Order slash? A. There was a band called Electronic, with Bernard Sumner singing and Johnny Marr (another Mancunian bloke; he was in The Smiths, with Morrissey) on guitar. They collaborated with the Pet Shop Boys early in their career, and I've heard that Bernard Sumner and Neil Tennant are friends in real life, so that just got my imagination running. 7. What about the Frasier slash? A. I have been noticing the slashy subtext within the series, so I just went with my instincts and started writing it. I've only seen one other Frasier/Niles slash story online, so I guess it's quite rare. 8. What's the origin of the title of this site? A. That is a name of a Pet Shop Boys song and a New Order song. They both have a song called "Young Offender", actually. Both songs were released in 1993---Pet Shop Boys' song was on their 1993 album Very, and New Order's song was on their 1993 album Republic. Coincidentally, both albums were produced by Stephen Hague. Since I write PSB/NO stories anyways, I decided that that should be the title. 9. Do you really think these people are all gay in real life? A. Of course not! I think every slash fanfiction writer gets asked this question at one point or another. I know that Neil Tennant is openly gay, but hardly any of my other subjects are gay. They are only gay within the realms of my slash fanfiction, if that makes any sense. Although, even though Depeche Mode and New Order are officially straight, there are some people in the world that think they're gay---the groups are probably gay friendly (both artists have had their songs on a gay pride album before; Depeche Mode had "Dream on" and New Order had "True Faith") and possibly "gay icon groups" as one person on the site "New Order Online" had once suggested. 12. Who are your favourite non-slash authors? A. F. Scott Fitzgerald, Albert Camus, Truman Capote, John Peale Bishop, Oscar Wilde, Evelyn Waugh, Jack Kerouac, and Samuel Beckett. 13. Why aren't your stories sexually explicit? A. I'm not prudish, mind you. However, I am simply not good at writing such stories, and not all slash/gay stories have to be sexually explicit, anyways. 14. Do you have any slashy music videos that are your favourite? A. Many of Depeche Mode's videos---"Strangelove '88", "Master and Servant", "Shake the disease", "Enjoy the Silence", "Precious", "A Question of Time", and "Stripped" in particular are slashy. As for the Pet Shop Boys, "Being Boring", "Was it worth it?", "Domino Dancing" are very homoerotic. New Order's "True "Faith", "Confusion", "Here to Stay", "World in Motion" are quite decent too. Also, the Electronic videos "Getting away with it" and "Disappointed" are slashy. 15. Who are your favourite actors? A. Kevin Spacey, Robert Lindsay, Stephen Fry, Michael Caine, Cary Grant, James Stewart and Michael Palin |
