| My name is Amanda; I’m fifteen, (or was when I started this site in 2001 anyway) and I come from the UK. I watched Prisoner Cell Block H on Channel 5. Unfortunately I never seen the whole series and I’m desperate for it to get screened again here in the UK.
My favourite character is Rita Connors, but you’ve probably guessed that anyway! I knew from her opening scene, when she stepped out the police van, and let out a mighty roar that she was going to be my all time favourite character. Rita "The Beater" Connors is a ‘bikie chick’ who was a member of a gang on the outside called the conquerors. She was sent to Wentworth on remand for beating up a ‘Shelia’ she found with her bloke. She was later sentenced to three years imprisonment behind the bars of Wentworth with a minimum non-parole period of thirteen months. Reet turned up to court wearing her gangs’ colours, which she refused to take of after hearing about her lover Slasher’s death. This obviously didn’t help. Rita made many enemies and mates from the day she arrived at the Prison. ‘The Freak’ (Joan Ferguson); Wentworths toughest screw; insured she landed in her bad books on their first meeting, not a good idea!!! When Rita became Top Dog, after Lou Kelly’s riot, she formed her own gang; THE WARRIORS!!! Later in the series The Freak got one over her (Or did she?) and had her sent to the dreaded Blackmoor, and trust me; it’s a place no one wants to be. They say once your there, your there for good, but does Rita “The Beater” beat it??? You decide! As the series drew to a close so did Rita’s life, she developed Cancer and used it to set up who else, but enemy number 1, Ms Ferguson. For years prisoners tried to get rid of the Freak and never succeeded, but did Reet??? We never found out if Rita died from Cancer, but I like to think she survived. Rita's last words in Prisoner were "I'll be the oldest bikie in the world." She closed the series with those words and the gate slammed shut for the final time! One, two, three… AWWwww! |
