Wing Chun is a martial art system that was developed more than 200 years ago. It was developed with the intent of finding a fighting system that could be mastered more quickly than any known style or system. An additional goal was to produce fighters that were superior to those skilled in any known system. These fighters were Han Chinese insurgents who were determined to overthrow Qing rulers of China and reestablish the Ming family who they viewed as the rightful rulers. The Qing soldiers were well armed and well trained in various martial arts. For an insurgent to carry out his mission, whatever that might be, and survive, he had to be able to defeat at least 1 Qing official and perhaps that officials armed body guard. Failure literally meant death. The result of their efforts is Wing Chun Kuen. A system without wasted movement that is efficient and to the point. A system that is designed to allow the slow to defeat the quick, the weak to vanquish the mighty, and the small to triumph over the large.
The study of Wing Chun Kuen is good for health and fitness. It helps improve the student's self discipline, confidence and ability to focus on the here and now. Furthermore, it is a practical, effective, time tested, proven system of self defense. The student's ability to defend himself or herself improves with each lesson.
