I also plan to plant 6 varieties of salvia greggii - it's quickly becoming one of my favorite plants because it blooms spring to frost (although it may stop briefly in August when it's 110 degrees). It's drought tolerant and loves the heat, requires little water, is aromatic, and is resistant to disease and insects. Hybrids allow for almost any color you can imagine and they spread slowly and reseed themselves. They prefer full sun, but mine are thriving in half sun with southern and western exposures.
