Sweet Embrace was owned by Jack and Bob Ingham and prior to the Slipper had been ridden by George Moore who elected to ride another runner
after the filly ran a poor last a month before the Slipper. Cliff Clare was asked to ride her at her next start from back in the field and she only narrowly missed winning in a slowly run race. In the
Slipper bookmakers had her at 40/1 and she came with a withering run to swamp the opposition and win by three lengths. Thus becoming the first maiden to win the race. |
