Kagome was a typical high school girl who was interestd in her studies, her friends, and whatever the latest trends were. She couldn't care less about the mystical heritage of her family, nor the strange tales that surrounded the ancient temple where she lived with her grandfather, mother, and younger brother. That all changed when a hideous demon burst from the capped well behind her home and dragged her through a dimensional portal to Japan's ancient, violent past. Here, she discovered her true nature: She is the reincarnation of Kikyo, a priestess who devoted her life to protecting the Shikon Jewel. This powerful magical item can gift those who possess it with unimaginable power. Unfortunately, the jewel is soon shattered into dozens of shards, and now Kagome leads two lives, in two different centuries. In one, she travels the blood-soaked, demon-infested landscape of ancient Japan in an attempt ot reassemble the shattered Shikon Jewel. In the other, she tries to maintain her life as a normal high school student, but the elaborate lies her grandfather and brother spin to cover her long absenses from school, along with the occassional visitation from the past, is making that difficult.

Kagome's life is being further complicated by the fact that she continues to fall deeper in love with Inu-Yasha, a half-demon who is her companion in the quest for the Shoikon Jewel. Inu-Yasha was also in love with Kagome's ancestor, Kikyo.

Sixth Sense: Detect Shikon Jewel Shards

When implanted into mortals or demons, the fragments of the Shikon Jewel grants the individual great powers. (See below for details on the Shikon Jewel shards.) Kagome, due to her mystical connection to the Shikon Jewel can see the evil aura that each shard emits, even when it is embedded in a living or dead body. If she concentrates and rolls a successful Soul check with a +4 penalty, she can also sense the rough direction of a shard within a range of one kilometer. Kagome can also sometimes sense the presense of shards without concentrating, particularly if several are concentrated in one place. The GM either makes a determination that Kagome senses shards, or he rolls a secret Soul check for the character, with no penalty.

Special Attack: Cause Arrows to Harm Demons

Arrows fired by Kagome are naturally charged with magical energy that inflicts +5 points of damage to any demon struck, in addition to the basic damage of the arrow. If the arrow strikes the deomn, it always suffers at least 5 points of damage, regardless of amor or magical protection.

Shikon Jewel Shards

The Shikon Jewel was created centuries in an attempt to banish great evil from the world. It was thought lost after the death of its guardian, the priestess Kikyo, but in truth it was passed mystically into the body of her reincarnation--Kagome from modern-day Japan. After Kagome was drawn into the past, the jewel was extracted from her body and shattered into an unknown number of fragments. These fragments each contain great power, but they also turn whoever inserts them into their bodies to evil. The effect of the shards on users are different between mortals and demons.

Mortals who insert Shikon Jewel shards into their bodies receive 5 bonus character points to be spent on Stats and Attributes however the character's player chooses. The amount of points are multiplied for each shard inserted. For each life the character takes while one or more shards are in his body, he receives an additional 2 bonus character points, but these are not multiplied by the number of shards. For each week the shards are in the character's body, he receives 5 bonus character points, but these are not multiplied by the number of shards. The power does not come without a price, as the evil energies of the Shoikon Jewel take their toll on mortal souls and flesh. For each day one or more shards are in a character's body, he must roll a successful Soul check or lose one point in his Soul attribute, until it is reduced to 3. (Bonus points  can be used to offset this loss.) For every week one or more shards are in the charcter's body, he must roll a Soul check with a +1 penalty. If the check fails, he loses a Level from one of the following Attributes, and loses the points spent to gain it as well: Appearance, Damn Healthy!, Heightened Awareness, or Heightened Senses. (Bonus points can be used to offset this loss.) After three failed Shoikon Jewel-related Soul checks, the character's body starts to become twisted and malformed, the evil growing in his soul manifesting itself in his body. This causes him to gain the Marked disadvantage at Level 1, but does not grant any bonus character points. After five failed Shikon Jewel-related Soul checks, the character gains the Market disadvantage at Level 2 and still does not gain any character points from it. How the character's body malforms is up to the GM, but it should relate to the powers he has gained from the shards, as well as the evil actions he has taken while they have been imbedded. Once the shards are removed, the character immediatey loses all bonus points and attributes purchased with them. The drawbacks all remain, however.

The amount of points are multiplied for each shard inserted. For each life the character takes while one or more shards are in his body, he receives an additional 3 bonus character points, but these are not multiplied by the number of shards. For each week the shards are in the character's body, he receives 4 bonus character points, but these are not multiplied by the number of shards. Due to the mortal blood in their veins, half-demons are subject to the physical and spiritual corruption of the shards, although far less so than mortals. For each day one or more shards are in a character's body, he must roll a successfu Soul check (with a -1 modifier to the roll) or lose one point in his Spirit attribute, until it is reduced to 3. (Bonus points  can be used to offset losses.) After five failed Shikon Jewel-related Soul checks, the character's body starts to become twisted and malformed, the evil growing in his soul manifesting itself in his body. This causes him to gain the Marked disadvantage at Level 1, but does not grant any bonus character points. Once the shards are removed, the character immediatey loses all bonus points and attributes purchased with them. The drawbacks all remain, however.

Demons who insert Shikon Jewel shards into their bodies suffer almost no ill consequences. A demon receives 10 bonus character points to be spent on Stats and Attributes of their player's choosing for each shard inserted. For each life the demon takes while shards are inserted into his body, he gains 4 additional bonus character points. For each week the shards are in the character's body, he receives 6 bonus character points, but these are not multiplied by the number of shards. The shards demand a price from demons, but it is far less than of others. For each week the shards are in a demon's body, he must roll a Body check with a +1 penalty. If the check fails, he loses 1 point each from his Body and Soul Stats and does not receive bonus points for that week. Additionally, demons with Shikon Jewel shards in their bodies have a more difficult time using the Shapeshifting attribute, if they possess it. All Shapeshifting checks are made with an additional +3 penalty, except when the demon is changing to his most hideous and demonic form.
