OES Poetry
It Isnít the Chapter, Its YOU!!!!!

If you want to have the kind of Chapter like the kind you like,

You neednít slip your clothes in a grip and start a long, long hike.

You only find what you left behind, thereís nothing new.

Its a knock on yourself when you knock the chapter because it isnít the Chapter, its YOU!

You say they talk money; each week or month, thatís the only sermon we hear.

If every member were just like you, would the Chapter debt be clear?

The Chapter is made by those not afraid to let somebody else get ahead.

When a few do the work and the rest of you shirk, No wonder the Chapter is DEAD!

So support the Chapter and your Worthy Matron Please remember this saying too,

Its a knock on yourself when you knock the Chapter because it isnít the Chapter, itís YOU!
A 5 Point Charge

May the
BLUE keep you faithful and true.
May the
YELLOW keep you holy and bold. May the WHITE help you make decisions right.  May the GREEN keep you ferverently leaning.  May the RED keep the love for OES in your heart from going dead!
Shine on, Star

Shine on!  Oh glorious Eastern Star, send out thy true appeal

Of fidelity, patience, purity, faithfulness, and zeal.

Into each member that is yours enshrine thy sacred light

To guide the steps of those who now walk onward in the marvelous light.
Be an Active Member

Be an active member, the kind that would be missed,

Donít be just content that your name is on the list.

Do attend the meetings and mingle with the crowd,

Donít stay at home and complain both long and loud.

Donít leave the work for just a few and grip about the clique,

Just take the time out to visit a member who is sick.

There is quite a program scheduled that means success, is done,

And it can be accomplished with the help of everyone.

So attend the meetings regularly and help with hand and heart,

Be an active member and take an active part.

Think this over, siSTAR, are we right or wrong?

Be an active member and PLEASE just donít belong!

I do not want position, nor power do I crave.

I do not want a spotlight, nor hear others sing my praise.

I do not crave to be a big shot, nor to make a special hit,

I want to be a Eastern Star and do my little bit.
Hand in Hand These Orders Shall Go

Along lifeís toilsome road

Both lending aid to weary ones

Who falter Ďneath their load;

Both giving help to pilgrims weak

When traveling from afar;

The one by Compasses led straight,

The other following the Star.

First, plant five rows of peas...
Preparation, Purity, Presence, Promptness, and Perseverance

Then, plant three rows of squash...
Squash gossip, Squash interference, Squash indifference, Squash unjust criticism.

Add five rows of lettuces...
Let us be faithful to duty, Let us be unselfish and loyal, Let us be true to our obligations, Let us obey rules and regulations, and let us love one another.

And since no garden is complete without them, finally plant turnips...
Turn up for meetings, turn up with a smile, Turn up with new ideas, Turn up with new members, Turn up with determination to make everything count for something.
If you plant all of the above, you will enjoy a perfect Masonic Garden, and reap lots of pleasure for your effort !!

TEN little Star members, Happy, doing fine;

One listened to a rumor, Then there were NINE.

NINE little Star Members, Faithful, never late;

One didn't like the Matron Then there were EIGHT.

EIGHT little Star members, On their way to Heaven;

One joined too many clubs, Then there were SEVEN.

SEVEN little Star members, Life dealt some hard licks;

One grew discouraged, Then there were SIX.

SIX little Star members, All very much alive,

One lost her interest, Then there were FIVE.

FIVE little Star members, Wishing there were more;

Got into a great dispute, Then there were FOUR.

FOUR little Star members, Busy as could be;

One didn't like the programs, Then there were THREE.

THREE little Star members, Was one of them you?

One grew tired of working, Then there were TWO.

TWO little Star members, And so much to be done;

One said "What's the use?" Then there was ONE.

ONE little Star member, Found a sister, true,

Brought her to the Chapter, Then there were TWO.

TWO little Star members, Didn't find work a bore;

Each brought another, Then there were FOUR

FOUR little Star members, Saved their Chapter's fate

By showing others kindness, Then there were EIGHT,

EIGHT little Star members, Loving their Star's sheen,

Talked so much about it, They soon had SIXTEEN

SIXTEEN Star members, To Obligations true,

Were pleased when their number Went to THIRTY-TWO.

THIRTY-TWO Star members Seeking Heaven's door

Soon enlarged their Chapter To a nice SIXTY-FOUR

So we can't put our troubles At the Chapter's door;

It's our fault for dimming The Star that we adore.

Don't fuss about the programs, Or the Matron in the East;

Keep your Vow by serving Even the very least.

You will have the Star shine Glowing in each heart;

Have a lively Chapter, When each one does a part.
