OUR HISTORY

We acquired our first Collie in 1962 and he was named no less than . . . Laddie. (What else for a newbie?) Laddie was killed at 10 months old saving my son's life by pushing him out of the way of a truck in our own drive!

After the shock wore off, we immediately started looking for another Collie, and acquired Lassie (of course) from Kay Donaldson of Southcrest. Lassie lived 12 years and helped us raise 8 kids. Along the way, we acquired some help for her in Ebby, a tri bitch, from Allene Elkins (McKewen now), who based her breeding on the Southcrest dogs.

These 3 dogs and our experience with them cemented our breeding program. Sound temperament, intelligence and strong herding instinct were to be a must in our breeding. We added normal eyes in the late 60s, after attending one of the first eye clinics held in Florida. Today we produce 90% normal eyes.

The "show bug" hit in the mid 70s and at that time we added Arrowhill lines from the West coast. Since some of the dogs I already had traced to Arrowhill Ace High (sire of CH Highman of Arrowhill and some of the old Kitteredge dogs), I found my head and type.

Our first Smooth, Gotcha, was purchased in the early 70s as a gift for my husband, after a comment made about ALL THAT HAIR! They have interbred with our Roughs since that time.

In 1995, we went to holistic medicine, raw foods and nosodes for our dogs and are pleased with the results.

Since we keep goats and do herding, body structure is extremely important, especially fronts, and our hips are all OFA'd with 100% pass excellent or good.

We have finished enough Champions to know we are on the right track. And we have had many more pointed who we pulled when it was evident they did not care for the ring. Here the dog is paramount, not OUR ego. We take pride in ourselves and our breeding for having HEALTHY WORKING FAMILY DOGS.
