| popularity as they win more & more matches. Hung, being also the chairman of the Soccer League is informed that Fung's Shaolin Team is doing very well. In fact undefeated is the word, getting closer, & closer to the championship. The "Powerful Team"(Karen Mok & Cecilia Cheung as team captains) is the team they have to beat in order to advance to the finals, & to play against Hung's "Evil Team". After winning against the Powerful Team, Hung invited Fung to offer him a sum of money which will give Hung utmost authority of the Shaolin Team. Hung also reminds Fung of the past, when Fung used to be greedy at hogging all the spotlight as "Golden Leg" when they played soccer years ago. Fung explains to Hung that, being greedy he admits. And greedy he is now. Fung & his shaolin team's greed is reserved not for money, but for the championship. Fung also bids Hung to see him on the soccer field, as Fung walks away turning down Hung's offer. The following day is the finals against the "Evil Team". From the kick off, the shaolin team quickly discovers that the evil team is no ordinary team, very fast, & very powerful. At the same time, Hung boasts to his right hand man about the steroids he had shot his evil team with explaining their extraordinary strength. Playing against such a powerful team, the shaolin team loses a player, the goalie "Empty Hand" after blocking several shots kicked by the evil team. Right after half time, "Iron Shirt" takes over as goalie, only to be the 2nd casualty, but not before blocking several attempted goals as well. The shaolin team now being forced to forfeit the game, if no one takes over as goalie, is approached by Mui. She convinces the shaolin team, & takes the goalie position while Sing tells her to be very careful. As the evil team kicks the final attempted goal, so powerful the ball & so fast it had fire trailing across the field. Mui, unleashes her Tai Chi & successfully blocks the shot, reverses the force passing the ball to Sing. Who winds up for a kick, with all his shaolin might Sing kicks the ball. The ball, now with so much force on it, complete with hurricanes, & thunderstorms trails towards the evil teams goal post destroying everything in its path, including the bleachers. Game Over. The Shaolin Team wins the Soccer Championship. At the end Fung & The Shaolin Team gets their honor back. As for Sing & Mui, they become "TIME MAGAZINE's Martial Arts couple." Shaolin Soccer is the box office champ in Hong Kong this summer, grossing more than 7.5 million. 10 times more than Rush Hour 2!!! Reviewed by DAGON (copyright 2001) DAGON'S ASIAN CINEMA DOMAIN |

| Final Note: "Besides the fun factor, & excitement when watching Shaolin Soccer. Besides the hilarious comedy, besides the spectacular martial arts, besides the jaw-dropping special effects, besides the movie itself being an unforgettable experience. I have to give props to Raymond Wong for composing such an awesome musical score, it's practically perfect. Stephen Chow is hilarious as always, Vicki Zhao did a flawless execution in playing as Mui. And with Karen Mok, Cecilia Cheung, & Vincent Kok, though brief was there appearance in the movie no doubt left an undoubtingly wonderful performance as well. No doubt, Stephen Chow's best chance for acquiring international movie stardom. I strongly recommend "SHAOLIN SOCCER" with all my might to EVERYONE! got that people? EVERYONE!!!! Now go pick yourself up a copy of SHAOLIN SOCCER...hurry, hurry.....!!!!!!!!!!!" Rating 1 - 10 DAGONS. What else can I say...what else for me to do but to give "SHAOLIN SOCCER" a perfect rating of 10 DAGONS!!! Truly Awesome!!! |
