A Bit O'History
Many many moons ago, a young man in an arranged marriage took his young bride and headed for America. These were the Palmeros from Palermo. They spoke little English, broken and limited at best, but determinedly headed for the wonderous country everyone was buzzing about.
They settled in a quiet state, one called Pennsylvania, and there attempted to make a home. Jobs were hard to comeby, a circumstance that is not new, so he traveled a great deal, trying to provide for his bride. Soon a child came along, and another and another till the total reached 21...
They struggled for many years till finally some of the offspring were old enough to find employment. Then the oldest ones helped out by taking some of the younger members into their own homes. One such young one was mio Grandmama.
Her older sister Mary had taken her into her care, and from there, Lillian grew up, and learned how to be on her own.
When she grew old enough to be on her own, she took many nursing jobs, and was even a governess. She put herself though Bible College, as her thirst for knowledge and the Big Guy in the sky was overwhelming. One day she married, and along came mio Mama, her first child. Two more followed, sons, and together the little family moved to the midwest. They eventually became missionaries in the Ozarks. Grandmama had new jobs too then, being the only minister as well as nurse in the area.
They finally moved back east and by this time mio Mama was a teen. They settled once again in Pennsylvania. Mama grew up, and married, and this generation was born...
