12/08/00: Second Check Up
I am soooooooooooooo very excited. I got to see my baby today. I was surprised because I figured that the Doctor would only check my vital signs and ask if I was doing ok and let me go. But, he did an ultrasound and I am so happy that he did.
The Doc said that everything is fine, in the right place and growing as it should be. I am exactly 8 weeks and 6 days pregnant, today. I was about a week off but that is fine..the later the better. I thought I was going into my 8th week, but it is actually the 9th week. This will put me at full term on July 16, 2001, according to this 8 week ultrasound.
We were looking on the ultrasound screen and I didn't expect to see anything. He showed me the Uterus and the sack holding the baby and a very small thing moving around and that was my baby! It is very, very small, only about 21 milimeters. Then he said do you see that and I looked where he was pointing and it was my babies heartbeat! It was so fast and so perfect. The Doc said that the baby is moving a lot and I asked if that was normal and he said yes. I can't feel it yet because it is so small but something tells me that if it is active now...it will be active throughout the pregnancy. The Doc was very excited to be able to see the baby and it's heartbeat as well. I guess he was excited for me. The machine he was using wasn't capable of printing a picture but he told me that when the organs develop more he will send me to another clinic and they will print pictures of the baby for me...how exciting... and of course, the picture(s) will be on here the same day I get them.
I called my husband and told him that he is missing out because I got to see the baby and he said he is going to take off work next appt so he can see it too. By the way, my next appt is on Jan 5, 2001. Hopefully the Doc will do an ultrasound so Tracy can see the little one as well.
I asked the Doc when I will be able to hear the babies heartbeat and he said it can be heard at 12 weeks but it is tricky to hear it then and told me not to get discouraged it I couldn't hear it then. He gave me enough excitment today to last for a couple of months.
I felt like I was pregnant before but I really feel it now that I got to see it gowing inside of me...what an awesome feeling and I am glad, although I complain about being sick, that I am able to have a child growing within me.
I was having morning, noon and night sickness pretty bad but it has clamed down over the past 2-3 days. I have only vomitted once but I think that was due to the flu. I know I was sick because of either a cold or flu and I haven't vomitted since then. Other than that, I am really exhausted and HUNGRY all the time.
Well, this was a wonderful day and I am glad that you came to read about it. If everything goes well, the next update will be on January 5, 2001, after my next appt. Thanks for coming in and I hope you have a Happy Holiday!
