"Thesis, thesis, thesis. Especially with the approaching AP and standardized testing season, a thesis statement is always the most crucial part of an essay or virtually any piece of writing. Make sure that it contains your main points in a clear and concise manner."--Nina
"Point of view is essential for any document, be it creative writing or something factual. If it is something factual, remember not to include your own point of view unless asked for it. If you are writing a story, try your hardest to capture the point of view of your character. Another important thing to remember is not to alternate between first and second and third and the millionth point of view. Be consistent throughout your work."--Allison
"Plan your work. It might sound outdated and obvious, but it's a must for any good writing. Do the little 'alien spaceship' (the plotting graph) if you must, or simply lay out exactly what you plan to write about before you actually write it. Know it in your head, know it on paper, just know it."--Ashley A.K.A. "Tatagua"
"Vary your words. I once read a paper in which the writer used the word 'ameliorate' twenty thousand times. AMELIORATE--'To make or become better; improve'...what's the big deal? It's a fantastic word (used once), but variety is crucial."--Shelby
"Descriptive language is a big thing. Similes, metaphors, just pretend you're in English class. Try to use creative descriptive language that grabs someone's attention, though, not something cliche. You don't have the key to my heart; you've found the path through my intestines. All you have to do is describe things from a new and unique perspective."--Phineas
"Different strokes for different folks. Don't conform to mundane topics and jejune ways of demonstrating those insipid subjects. Be yourself and do whatever you wish. If you don't like writing, don't write, and exit this site now. Do what makes you comfortable."--Murdoc Amadeus Nostradamus
