Vento is a handsome dog with excellent conformation, temperament and type.
He is an excellent retriever and a phenomenal upland hunter.
Vento is the son of Rosie, a daughter of Addidas Such Charm (CeCe)
who is a full sister to both Hunter's (Murphy Brown) and Singer's (Streisand) dams.
These sisters have consistently given us fabulous temperaments and type.
His U.S. Grandsire, Baron, Ch. Mayhem Gentleman's Agreement,
was the breed's first Multi-BIS All Breed winner.

Vento was Specialty Winner's Dog at the 2005 National Specialty.
He also won the Specialty Best in Sweeps competition.
He was awarded a Judge's Award of Merit at the 2007 National Specialty
and is an All Breed group placer.
His show career is secondary, however, as
Vento is primarily a hunting companion.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Six pups were born June 27, 2008,
4 liver males, 1 black male and 1 liver female.

The liver males weighed in at one pound each. Their sister and black brother were each 14 oz.

INTO THE FIRST WEEK

BLUE BOY (TAIKO)

Caught in the middle of a yawn.
The Fourth of July fireworks didn't phase him.

RED BOY (CHAUNCEY)

Like the others, Red Boy spent most of this week sleeping.

YELLOW BOY (BANDIT)

Besides sleeping, this boy eats.
He was the first pup to weigh in at 2 pounds.

PINK GIRL (CARLIE)

At two days.

GREEN BOY (WOODY)

His head will change so much as he grows.

BLACK BOY (ELVIS)

Our sole black puppy, and we were so glad to see him.

The pups began their daily, early neurological stimulation exercises on the third day.
These exercise have been shown to improve health and development later in life.
Reference

The pups fit nicely into a copy paper box,
to keep them out of harm's way while I freshened up the nursery.
Within a few days they had outgrown the box,

and they still snooze a lot.

INTO THE SECOND WEEK

During their second week, all the pups have doubled in size,
and two have tripled in size.

They are becoming more active,

turning over,

finding new places,

their eyes are beginning to open,
(so the flash gets put away for awhile)

and they still snooze a lot.

Pink girl and Blue boy seem to find each other

a lot.

INTO THE THIRD WEEK

The puppies' eyes have all opened.

The Livers at 2 1/2 weeks.

INTO THE FOURTH WEEK

The pups were kid tested and approved!
The next morning, another first,
Black Boy came over to me and nudged my hand to be petted.

Every morning starts with a good stretch!

Isn't this where the kids came from?

I don't see them!

Pink and Blue, together again.

It's been a long day.

A very long day!

The pups are growing teeth,

so the games should get more interesting!

This is how 23 day old puppies play:

They are steadier on their feet,
they interact (wrestle) with each other, and
they discover their body parts.
Soon, they will escape from the box, they're already trying.

INTO THE FIFTH WEEK

The pups are seriously considering escape.
Pink Girl ended up being the first out of the box.
I found her snuggled next to the baby gate when I got home.

Everyone enjoyed their first solid meal.
They cleaned their plate in no time at all.

After dinner, everyone was playful.

Then everyone konked out.

Star has been itching to meet the pups,
Woody thought she was interesting.

The pups have a new day pen.
They are in the heart of the house
and can watch all the comings and goings.

This is how 31 day old puppies play:

And just when I think one is getting his can kicked,
he turns into the aggressor.
This is such an educational period in their lives.

After exhausting bouts of play,

the pups just drop off to sleep,

wherever they happen to be,

with whatever pillow is available,

and all is quiet for awhile.

INTO THE SIXTH WEEK

We broke out the decoys this week.

Elvis was quite at home among them.

Carlie prefers the Wood Duck.

Bandit likes the Mallard.

Woody is still trying to decide which one is best.

Chauncey, Saying "Hello", This is the end you sniff, right?

And Taiko thought they were somewhat tasty.

WE ALSO VENTURED OUTSIDE AND SET UP THE PUPPY YARD.

And the pink pool turned out to be the main attraction.
Yes, this is the very same pink pool that Ziva loved as a pup.

The tunnel is pretty cool too!

There are neat places to hide.

This is how 39 day old puppies play:

Sometimes they play bumper cars (without the cars):

And if they play too hard, they catch some ZZZZ's in comfort.

INTO THE SEVENTH WEEK

The play has gotten more "playful",

We've started practicing on the steps,

But no one has made it to the top yet.

The obstacles have become more fun.

Several of the pups have gone through the Circle.

Everyone has conquered the ramp.

The pups grasped balance on the teeter-totter instantly.

Things outside the fence have become more interesting.

And each pup had the opportunity to explore the vast unknown.

INTO THE EIGHTH WEEK

Everyone loves the Pause Table

Chauncey has "down" down pat.

Bandit savors his turn on the table.

Sometimes the competition for the table is fierce.

But it is a dangerous apparatus for a pup.

This is how 46 day old puppies play:

The pups enjoy community play on the obstacles.
The teeter-totter is a favorite.

THE PUPS ARE BEGINNING TO TAKE UP MORE SPACE.

The Day Pen is shrinking!

And when they work together, it moves around the kitchen!

The bed is shrinking too!

And Deacon wonders to which of these boys he'll be teaching the ropes.

The pups are looking and acting more like "little dogs".

Their legs are getting longer,
no more struggling to get in the pool.

Hallelujah! They can climb the steps!

They come when called at dinner time.

And they are learning more mature social skills.

INTO THE NINTH WEEK

Optical Illusion

The pups love hiding under things,
but the ramp will soon be too small.

We broke out the duck wings this week.

Taiko's curiosity has been piqued.

He has decided that he likes this thing.

Elvis thinks it's pretty neat too.

Chauncey decided he should keep it (not).

Then we had a free-for-all

as the pups ganged up on it

chased it

and tried to "own" it.

Carlie and Woody were content to stay out of the fray
and watch the others compete for the wing.

Final installment of Puppies at Play

Here are the final four at nine weeks of age.

INTO THE TENTH WEEK

We knew this day would come.
The pups from the Drum Litter begin to go 'home'.

And then there were four.
Carlie and Chauncey left first.
They each had a +/- fourteen hour drive home,
and they were excellent travelers.

And then there were three.
Elvis took off with his new Dad
and their flight took about an hour.

And then there were two.
Bandit flew solo and was met by his new Dad.
The call that he had arrived safely was very much appreciated!!

And now there is one.
Woody rode home with his new Dad
where three excited little boys
were staying up late to wait for him.

Taiko is the newest addition to the Windsong Curly Clan.
In all these years, he is our first Liver Curly.
