  Save tonight.

:::::::: Go on and close, the curtians, cuz all we need, is candlelight, you and me, and a bottle of wine... I'll hold you tonight.::::

Steve opened his door and cast a worried look at his lover who stood in the doorway. "Bren?" The black haired man entered, a bottle of champagine in hand, and sat it down on the table. Steve looked at him. "Hon.... what's wrong?" Brendan turned to Steve, his black eyes bleak and miserable, and Steve suddenly felt that it was the end of the world, and he didn't even know what was going on. "Brendan... please... tell me what's going on. You called me..." Brendan kissed his long-time lover gently and pushed him back onto the couch, as they kissed, Steve realized Brendan was crying, he could feel the moist tears trailing down his lover's cheeks and wettening his own. He pulled away, his head swimming with confusion. "Bren?" The younger man took Steve's hand in his own and swallowed, not bothering to wipe his tears away. "Steve..." he paused, and Steve thought that the utter silence might drive him mad. "I... I have to go...." Brendan fought more tears and his best friend blinked at him with confusion. "What?" Brendan looked into Steve's beautiful dark eyes. "I... I've been traded to the Blues."  Steve didn't register what Brendan was saying at first and he blinked, sure he had misheard him. "What?" Brendan bowed his head. "Ken called me today... I've been traded to the Blues." Steve felt panic set in, his heart began to thump in his chest. This had to be a joke, it had to be. "Brendan. You're joking, right? Please tell me you're joking!" He grabbed Brendan's shoulders and shook the younger man. "Tell me you're joking!" Brendan looked into Steve's eyes, his own dark eyes leaking tears. Steve stared into Brendan's gaze and knew the older man wasn't kidding. His heart stuttered to a stop for a moment.

::::::::We both know I'm going away, and how I wish it weren't so, but take and this wine, and drink with me, lets belay our misery.::::::::::::

Steve felt helpless, he couldn't stop this. He had no control over it. Brendan was crying again, and Steve, looking into his long-time lover's sad dark eyes, began to sob as well. His heart shattering. He distantly heard his own voice moan. "No.... this can't happen." He began to cry harder. He was losing the love of his life. The man who had helped him win three Stanley Cups. The team didn't win until Brendan joined them, and Steve knew they wouldn't again unless Brendan was on their team, but suddenly the Stanley Cup seemed like nothing, he was losing the love of his life. His soul mate. He felt Brendan's large hand, entangled with his smaller one and knew that he couldn't live without Bren, it seemed impossible. He couldn't lose HIS Brendan, not to some stupid team that hadn't won the cup in.... years!

:::::::: There's a log, on the fire and it burns, like me for you. Tomorrow comes, with one desire, to take me away from you.:::::::::

Brendan's breathing was rapid and He took Steve into his arms, he could feel the small man shaking in his arms and his heart ached even more. "Stevie..." He whispered, brushing his lips against his lover's soft cheek. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry..." Steve continued to cry in Brendan's arms, and each sob made Brendan's heart tremble. How could this have happened? He and Steve were destined for eachother, it was... more than fate or destiny, it was.... it... it couldn't be anything other than a plan of some devine. Steve was his soul-mate, his reason for life, his existance. And now they were being ripped apart. This wasn't supposed to happen. Not to them. And this was his last time with his lover. He was leaving in two days, and those two days would be spent packing his things. He shook his head and pulled away from Steve.

:::::::::::It aint' easy, to say goodbye, darling please, don't start to cry, babe you know I got to go, Oh lord I wish it wasn't so.::::::::

"Stop." Brendan commanded silently. Steve looked at him, his wide brown eyes hurt and confused. "What?" "Steve, we can't say goodbye like this, please, stop crying. I don't want it to end, not like this." Steve nodded, and tried his best to stop his tears. If he had to say goodbye to his love, then he was going to try to enjoy his last night with him. Brendan nodded and gave Steve a heart-breaking smile, wiping the tears from Steve's cheek with the ball of his thumb, "There. Let's have some champagine."  He opened the bottle and poured some into the two glasses he'd brought with him. Steve took one and held it up. "To...to us." His voice wavered, and his chin trembled, but he hardened his jaw and Brendan nodded, clinking their glasses together. Brendan took a small drink of his champagine and then sat the glass down. Steve did the same. Neither of them wanted to get drunk. They wanted to remember this night.

:::::::::::Tomorrow comes to take me away, I wish I could stay, love you know I got to go, Lord I wish it wasn't so.:::::::::::::

Brendan leaned foreward, kissing Steve's soft pink lips, and wrapped his arms around his small lover. Steve whimpered against his lover's lips and gently pulled Brendan ontop of him. Brendan leaned into the kiss, pressing into it and making it firmer, Steve's hands slid under Brendan's black silk shirt, but there was no arousal in these actions, just pure simple love. Brendan pulled out of the kiss, taking in the sight of his small lover, his brown hair tussled and his lips parted as he panted for breath. Brendan locked every image in his memory, knowing he wouldn't see it again for a very long time. Steve opened his brown eyes and did the same, taking in the very essence of Brendan, praying something would happen so that his lover wouldn't have to leave him when the sun rose. Brendan climbed off his lover and Steve looked up at him, hurt showing in his eyes. "Brendan?" Bren placed one finger on Steve's lips before lifting Steve into his arms and carrying him into the bedroom, his heart thudding. He would remember his small lover forever.

::Save tonight, fight the break of dawn, come tomorrow, tomorrow I'll be gone. Save tonight, fight the break of dawn, come tomorrow, I'll be gone::::::::

Brendan lay his lover back onto the bed, and moved to unbutton his shirt, looking into his eyes the entire time. Steve worked on Brendan's shirt as well, and soon both of their smooth chest's were exposed. Brendan kissed Steve before moving down and postioning himself at the foot of the bed, then he took the button of Steve's tight jeans into his mouth, he ignored the coppery taste, and undid the jeans with his teeth. Steve whimpered softly and Brendan reached up with his right hand and took Steve's hand in his, clenching it. as he held his lover's hand he worked on unzipping Steve's jeans with his teeth, being careful to not catch his lip in the zipper. Once he had them unbuttoned and unzipped he moved back up, capturing Steve's lips as he pulled the jeans off the older man's slim hips. Steve's tongue requested enterance to his mouth and he parted his lips more, his hands gripping Steve's hips and pulling their bodies together. After a moment of the deep kiss Brendan pulled away. "I love you." Steve teared up and he tried to forget that Brendan would be gone the next day. "I love you too Brendan." Brendan smiled weakly at him. "At least we have that." Then he moved down, pulling Steve's boxers down. "Remember me like this."

~The next morning~

Steve rolled over in bed, moving to curl up next to Bren, and was startled awake when his lover wasn't there. He sat straight up, looking around. white/yellow sunlight glinted through the blinds in slanted rays, falling on the empty half of the bed. The sheets were tangled, indicating that Steve hadn't just had a horrible dream about Brendan leaving, and then Steve's eyes fell on the note Brendan had left on his pillow. His eyes filled with tears and he picked up the note, which was in a small envolope, and opened it. He reached up with his left hand, the hand Brendan had held as they slept the night before and wiped away the tears that were threatening to trail down his cheeks. slowly, he began to read the note, pain thudding in his chest. The note read:

Steve,
I love you.  Forever.  Please don't cry. We'll always be together, if not in body, then in heart and soul. Our love was destiny, fate, a plan of the devine, and we will never lose that. I love you, just remember that.
                                                               Love,
                                                                      Brendan

Steve wiped more tears away and looked at the empty side of the bed with sorrow. They would always be together..... He sighed and lay back down. What could he do now?
