NONETS by Lisa Arnold

DAWN

birth of dawn awakens September

early morning orange-red sun

giving the gift of warmth to earth's

dew-covered lawns as

crows caw in their nests

opening their beaks

to feast on

juicy

worms

SILENT RIVER SPEAKS

silent river ripples and speaks

as gusty October winds rush

and swoop violently

over open water

then calmly resting

until the next

gush of wind

rushes

it

YEARS LONG PASSED

reading letters from years long passed

tears well and stream from my lost eyes

I long for those days when your

embrace graced my soul

and I pray for the

day when I am

no longer

lost and

cold

DARKNESS FALLS

darkness falls heavily over calm

city as I walk these vacant miles

praying I can find something

to put in my pocket

but all I find is

a dime and a

handful of

rusted

dust

SEARCHING WITHIN

I stumble blindly and lose my way

broken by hard pitfalls of life

hoping to regain strength

as I push myself on

searching for escape

from life's ruthless

vise but I

am held

down

YESTERDAY

At times, it seems as if it was just

yesterday when you said hello

to me that cold winter day

and rescued me from

suffering misery

I was clutching

and gave me

sense of

hope
