Hilde Schbeiker- friend or something more? The age-old question remains. |

Has our favorite Gundam pilot actually found true love in Hilde? To Sakura, it seems unlikely. While Duo obviously cares a great deal for Hilde, it's my theory that their relationship is platonic, more of a sibling- type thing than a romantic thing. Hilde seems far too willing to put past transgressions behind her (this shows when she abandons OZ to be with Duo, and again when she proposes to join the military again simply to follow him around), and she wouldn't be able to understand the misery that our sweet Duo-kun has been through. In my opinion, Duo would be looking for a supportive relationship, and for somebody who's a good listener- which Hilde really doesn't seem to be, considering she lives to follow Duo around in Relena-type fashion. They obviously never do anything to imply a romantic relationship in the series OR in Endless Waltz. Even though Hilde seems as obsessed with Duo as Relena is with Heero, Duo certainly doesn't seem to be that crazy about Hilde, except in a friendly, brotherly kind of way.
Which brings us to the next question:
Is Duo gay?
There are several stated theories that Duo and Heero have a romantic relationship. While this makes sense in more respects than does the Duo-Hilde pairing, I must again draw from the facts the series and Endless Waltz give us- that NOBODY is really in a romantic relationship with anybody else. It's also my opinion that Heero and Duo could never get along in a romantic setting- while opposites sometimes attract, I think that Heero and Duo are just way too opposite to ever get along. Think about it for a minute. On the one hand, you have Heero, the Perfect Soldier. On the other hand, you have Duo. 'Nuff said.

"Hilde and Duo aren't a good couple because Hilde has about 0 sense of humor and Duo has an awful lot. He's funny most of the time. Hilde's just creepy. Duo is Shinigami. Hilde isn't Mrs. Shinigami. Nuff said.
"Duo most certainly isn't gay because he just is not. He is happy and all, but not gay. Heero and Duo would not be a good couple because they are totally opposite and Heero would kill Duo. But then again, Duo is the 'Shinigami', so nothing would happen to Duo. He'd just hurt Heero. It would be too mush of a Love/Hate relationship. Hee hee...Hate, definately."

"Hilde seems to love Duo in a romantic way, but Duo doesn't. You can obviously see that Hilde runs around doing everything for Duo and trying to help with all his work. Just like in Episode 32: The God of Death Meets Zero, Hilde runs around asking what she can do to help Duo, and Duo just answers her in a sarcastic fashion. That's just the way Duo is. And with his traumatic past, it would take someone with a strong personality to win Duo's heart. Hilde just doesn't seem to have it in her to be the best mate for him. And the next question, are Heero and Duo a couple then? In my opinion, I have nothing against yaoi/yuri relationships at all. But come on, Heero can't stand Duo in the beginning of the series so why would they ever be a couple? Besides, Duo and Heero don't seem to have the personalities of being homosexual men. Heero doesn't show any emotions at all and Duo's too busy flirting with women to be homosexual. So, does that mean he's single? I hope so. LOL."

"I agree Hilde and Duo have a sibling relationship and nothing more. They never show any lovey type emotions to each other in the show. They aren't anything more than mere friends.
But I do LOVE 1+2/1x2. Yeah so what sue me. Even though they don't have any relationship or show any love towards each other in the series, if you look hard enough 1+2 is there hovering right over you.
And unlike 2+Hilde, Heero and Duo both had hard pasts and only know what it's like to be a soldier (or street rat in Duo's case) during a war where they grew up without a family. (I dunno about Hilde, she didn't have an Episode Zero chapter) It kinda sounds like they're singing to one another in "Good Luck and Goodbye" and "Flying Away" which are some of my favorite songs."
